On his birthday, here’s looking at the illustrious career of the gem of Indian cinema, Naseeruddin Shah
Naseeruddin Shah is one of the most respected actors in Bollywood, and his formidable acting talent has been an inspiration to many. Legend has it that he is one of the few people who can act with their back towards the camera and yet manage to convey every emotion perfectly apt for the situation. His expansive body of work would make any actor go green with envy. Much to his dislike, he was hailed as the Amitabh Bachchan of art cinema. In the early stage of his career, thanks to his unconventional looks, he was seen mostly in films that were arty and serious.
Naseer saab made a splash in commercial cinema with films like Hero Hiralal and Tridev. Along with Bollywood, he has been a prominent face in the theatre circuit. His theatre group, Motley Productions has plays like Ismat Aapa Ke Naam and Manto Ismat Haazir Hain to its credit. After all these years, he continues to earn respect with his acting in films like Omkara, Ishqiya, The Dirty Picture, Finding Fanny, OK Jaanu and Irada to name a few. With about 300 films to his credit and having been entitled with numerous prestigious awards, including three National awards (for Sparsh, Paar and Iqbal) and Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, he is a force to reckon with, and unstoppable even at 68. He is an inspiration to many, but his hunger for good roles makes him envy some of the actors of today. What a spirit! More power to you, Naseer saab!
Wish you a very happy birthday!
